Heartbreaking Harm: The Skrmetti Case Decision

Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision on U.S. v. Skrmetti is a heartbreaking step backward for families everywhere. By allowing states to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth, the Supreme Court is sanctioning the suffering of trans youth and their families. 

Transforming Families condemns this decision. Parents know what is best for their child.  Decisions about healthcare should remain between families and the doctors who follow evidence based guidelines to keep trans kids healthy and thriving. This discriminatory ruling tells loving parents that our informed choices are subject to politics and what state we live in rather than medical expertise and science.

It is deeply unjust that the basic human right to essential, lifesaving care now depends on where you live. In one state, a child can access the support they need to flourish; in the next, that same care is outlawed. No family should be forced to uproot their entire life so their child can receive basic healthcare, but this is what we are now faced with.
